The trend had subsided and now it is back again.The obsession for a fair complexion has returned with a bang or should I say a blow. The marriage bureau advertisements scream about how a handsome guy with a good salary is on the lookout for a fair girl. The trend has caught up with the boy brigade as well. I believe the fairness cream makers have conveniently forgotten the dark and handsome tag and have changed it to fair and handsome.
Well, the obsession is not only restricted to the southern part of the subcontinent but it is very much prevalent in the northern areas too.The west is in the quest of a tan and here people want to get their inherently brown skin bleached.The marriage business is a different story altogether.
But, what makes me wonder, is the fact that though majority of the young population knows that the melanin content can never be reduced then why are they lured by the creams.Well, there can be a lot of explanations to this. The most prominent one being the guilt to cover the grey areas of ones life using this external fairness aid .It might sound philosophical but then, it is a common phenomenon which goes unnoticed. for example the boy tries to hide his chauvinistic heart by getting pretty or rather a Fair face.The girl tries to cover her evil intentions with a lovely face.
But, I'm left to wonder again if beauty is just skin deep. Having a pretty face is all that is needed to win this world? The world has become so artificial as such and these products only add to that misery.I don't have anything against the multinational giants who market these products. It just reminds me once again the hollowness of human existence.
Well how much ever you are successful in whitening your face ..there are few things like your heart , stomach and something down below which will remain dark nevertheless...
