One for the road... not anymore ..

The time has come to bid farewell to another year. The time for parties, music and all things good . It is also the time to spot old friends, gossip about party stoppers and spot party blooper. But new year evokes mixed feelings in me.

I dread to open the newspaper on new-year's day. The yearly horoscope predictions, the latest fashion trends and the resolutions of some film-stars are reasons enough to stay from the papers. But, personally for me the major reason is the number of accidents that would have occurred on the new year eve. Majority of them being drunken driving cases. I shudder to think of the agony the loved ones of the victims face.

All this is because we youngsters have failed to understand the meaning of celebrations. When will we realize that there is more to life than enjoying a single day and keeping our loved ones in pain and agony for rest of their lives. Momentary excitement and rage for us results in permanent misery for the ones who love us.

I guess the phrase "one for the road" has been taken a tad too seriously by my friends out there. It certainly doesn't mean another bottle of beer for the drive back home. Even if it meant that, not anymore. Times have changed and caution is the mantra to live. It might sound primitive but most important things like the earth, sea, mom's love and friend's pranks do not change. So you cannot afford to lose all these for an extra bottle of booze.

Parties and special occasions are to be remembered and cherished. They are definitely not be drained in bottles of beer and vodka. An occasional drink with family and friends cannot be denied. But then, driving and drinking are definitely a deadly combination literally and figuratively. When one thing is in progress the other has to stay wait. Multi-tasking here is a definite no-no .So, for the benefit of society and ourselves it would be better if we kept them apart. Work hard, party harder and drive the safest.

Hope to meet my friends intact when I go back after holidays
All my hard-work of writing this, hope it pays
Gives me no happiness to dole out advice
But then I don't want to lose you guys
This party we will enjoy to the core
But One for the road not anymore ...
